The Emmeline Pankhurst Statue Unveiling will take place on Friday, 14th December 2018 .
This date is highly significant. One hundred years ago on 14th December 1918 some women voted for the first time in a British General Election.
It will be the first statue of a woman unveiled in Manchester in 117 years. Queen Victoria in Piccadilly Gardens is the only other female commemorated.
Rallying points for the marchers – All welcome!
Marchers will rally at The Pankhurst Centre on Nelson St and The People’s History Museum at 10.30 a.m. They will then march into St Peter’s Square for the statue unveiling.
All are welcome for this highly significant event.
The unveiling ceremony begins at midday
The unveiling will begin in St Peter’s Square at midday. There will be music from Manchester Community Choir and brief speeches. We will also be asking everyone to join in with a rendition of the newly commissioned Pankhurst Anthem.
The event will finish shortly after 1.00 p.m. There will then be an opportunity to see the statue close up. The Royal Northern College of Music Brass Ensemble will play.
